Overview

The course is a part-time university continuing education programme with the aim of providing present and future in-house counsels with an introduction to relevant areas of the working methods of people working in the position of in-house counsel.

This includes in particular areas such as legal strategy, compliance, risk management, corporate governance, contract drafting, litigation and dispute management and other important areas of law. In addition, participants will acquire knowledge and skills in the areas of personnel and leader effectiveness, project management, people management, etc., which are necessary for successful in-house counsel./p>

The programme combines academic teaching and research with practice and at the same time promotes professional, methodological and social skills.

Modus
The program is scheduled to start in March 2024 and will be held on 20 half-days (Friday afternoon and Saturday morning) on 10 weekends.

Proof of Performance

Assessments
Students give a group presentation during the course and write a written paper at the end of the course.

Obligatory attendance
In addition, an 80% attendance requirement applies for passing the course.

Degree
The Faculty of Law of the University of Zurich awards the title to successful graduates of the programme:
CAS Certificate of Advanced Studies UZH in Inhouse Counsel.

ECTS Credits
The Faculty of Law of the University of Zurich awards 10 ECTS credits to successful graduates of the programme.

Costs

CHF 8'000.-* for Early Birds
CHF 8'500.-* Regular

The course fee includes the costs for digital course materials, examination fees and graduation ceremony. Not included are the costs of excursions and special literature.

*After receipt of the confirmation of acceptance, cancellation is possible within 10 days without incurring any costs, after which the full tuition fees are deemed to be owed. All course fees must be paid within 30 days of the invoice date, but in any case, before the course begins. In the event of a later withdrawal, the tuition fees will not be refunded.

Requirements and Application

Requirements
The participants have a university degree and practical experience.

In exceptional cases, persons with comparable qualifications and specific practical experience may also be admitted «sur dossier».

The study commission can make admission dependent on a successful admission interview.

Applications must be submitted electronically using the application form.

Target Audience

The Inhouse Counsel Programme provides a broad overview of what it means to practice effectively in-house, with an emphasis on practical advice and tools that can be used directly. The programme has been developed by experienced in-house counsels and is run by leading general counsels in order to provide both new and experienced lawyers with an interesting, entertaining and ultimately pragmatic course. Participants will learn about legal strategy, compliance and risk management, corporate governance, contract drafting and review, litigation and conflict management and other important legal topics. Other skills required for success in business, including employee and manager effectiveness, project management and leadership will also be covered.

If you want to develop skills to advance your career, this is your chance to see all aspects of internal life from the perspective of the lawyers who run leading legal departments and functions. Lawyers in private practice with corporate clients also have a lot to gain, as this course will help you better understand your clientsʼ challenges, thought processes and priorities.
